Following the death of his father, Tom lived at Freshwater, Isle of Wight with his cousin, Emily Castleman-Scorrey ("Aunt Cassie") before joining the British Army Regiment 22501 Transport 2nd (REME) as a photographer, initially a Sapper and promoted to 2nd Corporal.
He served in the front line of the 1914-18 War - Battle of the Somme, Belgium & Germany and received citations and medals including the Victory Medal for his work which were retained by his son, Claude. In 2011 Claude advised me that he intended to donate the medals to the "Historial of the Great War, 1914/18" in Péronne. Location confirmed (2018) by his granddaughter Véro RAWBONE.
